LIVE Virtual Webcast – Tuesday, May 14 at 6pm EST:
Workshop Description: Leading is not only about standing out in a crowd. Whether we like it or not, often times leaders have to be willing to leave the pack and be prepared to stand alone. Making tough decisions and stepping outside of what we know - what is most comfortable - can be overwhelming and downright scary. Through real-life situations and practical examples, this session will provide leaders with the tools necessary to stand strong outside of their comfort zone. The presentation will focus on leadership skills that will help emerging and established student leaders during times of uncertainty within their position. Specifically, the presentation will define leadership (i.e. a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective), discuss how leadership allows team members to want to achieve high goals, and how often times it results in a situation where members feel bossed around. A large portion of the presentation will focus on the tools students can use during times when they will be called upon to move beyond their comfort zone, make tough decisions, and be looked upon to produce results. These skills include: knowing yourself and seeking self-improvement, being technically proficient, seeking responsibility and feedback, taking responsibility for your actions, making sound decisions, setting a good example, knowing your team and looking out for their well-being, keeping your team informed, and developing a sense of responsibility in your organization.
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify specific situations where student leaders are uncomfortable in their position.
- Identify a leaders values which helps shape their leadership style.
- Learn to identify particular pitfalls student leaders can avoid when assuming leadership roles.
- Obtain the necessary skill set to confidently step outside of their comfort zone to achieve maximum results with their team and within their organization.
